A bit of history: 6835 Gorsten Street was built in 1906-07 as part of a sixty acre real estate development by one of Philadelphia's major developers of that era, Frank Mauran (1864-1954). He negotiated with the Reading Railroad to build a new commuter rail station at his own cost if the Reading would agree to stop its trains there. Mauran call his development "Stenton" and gave the station the same name, "Stenton Station." The 60 acres stretched from Gorgas Lane on the north to Phil Ellena on the south and from the rail line on the west to Stenton Avenue on the east. By 1910, Mauran had built 41 three story homes on this land, most of them twins.

An example of the early 20th century Philadelphia building boom: a 3 story brick semi-detached solid home with 6 bedrooms and 2 full baths. In the early 20th century when local industries employed thousands who needed sizeable homes, 332 West Logan Street filled the bill. Then, workers would walk across Fernhill Park to the Budd Plant and other factories on Hunting Park Avenue. Today, more than a hundred years later, 332 West Logan Street offers a lovely spacious home on a quiet fully residential one-way street just a half block from the trees, broad lawns, tennis courts and basketball courts of Fernhill Park, a quick walk to the commuter train at Wayne Junction or Queen Lane or to the XH or 53 bus lines, and a 10 minute drive to Center City. This property is in the Southwest Germantown community with a variety of places of worship and schools, a number of community gardens, neighborhood organizations like the Friends of Fernhill Park. Historic homes dot the neighborhood. 332 West Logan Street offers a lot of house for a reasonable price.

This pretty twin home, graced with original detail, is the legacy of the 1920's building boom in Germantown. 4 bedrooms, not just 3! 1 full bath on the 2nd floor and powder room on the first floor. At 100 years old, it offers some very liveable, functional features that newer twin homes today do not: An entry foyer that blocks cold air from coming into the living area in the winter; a delightful and functional bench and storage bin at the bottom of the stairs near the entrance; an open covered front porch that invites lounging on a sunny day; 9 foot high ceilings; and the beauty of never-painted stained oak trim on windows, around doors and on the staircase. This is a solid, excellent house. You may want to re-finish the oak floors upstairs or paint your own colors or even fully bring to life the partially finished area of the basement. In the end you will have a comfortable, roomy, architecturally significant home on a pretty block. Located close to the innovations of Wayne Junction with Attic Brewery, Deke's Barbecue, Merzbacher's bakery. Easy access to public transportation: bus and train.
